Minitube Linux

I’ve been a huge fan of Minitube. I use it nearly every work day to run interesting videos to give me a nice sound backdrop to work by. Mostly, I find myself playing AMVs, but I also enjoy just typing in random stuff to see what it starts playing.

Apr 25, 2018 Linux kernel 4.10. Ubuntu 17.04 is based on the Linux release series 4.10. LibreOffice has been updated to 5.3. Apps provided by GNOME have been updated to 3.24. Exceptions are the Nautilus file manager (3.20), Terminal (3.20), Evolution (3.22), and Software (3.22). The Calendar app now has a Week view. Minitube is a lightweight YouTube client, which allows users to watch videos on YouTube in a new way: you type a keyword into a search box and MiniTube immediately loads the results. The program is a native YouTube client that tries to provide a TV-like experience for the user instead of cloning the original YouTube web interface.

However, a few weeks ago, it just suddenly stopped working. I was sad, but there was a lot of stuff going on, so I just left it broken. Today, I found the fix.

On Minitube’s install page, Flavio mentions removing the phonon-backend-xine package as a possible solution. I tried it, and it worked. ~~Given that I don’t know what other software may rely on this, I tried reinstalling the package, and Minitube still worked.~~ After rebooting, I found that it no longer worked again, so it seems that the package does need to stay removed. I’ve updated the following to only show removing the package.

Install Ubuntu 17.04

Hello everyone, how are you all doing today? I hope you are all having a great day so far. My day is going just fine and I can’t believe March is basically over already, 2017 is going a bit way too fast. Anyone else getting that feeling? It just can’t be me! Lol, anyway, please read on…

gconf is no longer installed by default since it has long been superseded by gsettings. Note that statistics and preferences for the Aisleriot card games will be reset when upgrading to 17.04.

DPDK

Ubuntu 17.04 includes the latest release of DPDK, 16.11.1.

As a tech preview DPDK is now also available for ppc64el. This includes the latest improvements made in version 16.11.1 in general, but also further improvements to enable the i40e PMD and vfio-pci scanning on spapr platforms.
